Status Update on New Theme

If you subscribe to the “Get All Themes” package for 2008, you will have received a quick overview of what the next Graph Paper Press theme release will entail. Here is the quick message that I sent to subscribers:

The next theme release at Graph Paper Press is a theme framework. The theme allows you to enable or disable more than 6 homepage layouts and features including a slideshow, a slider gallery, a magazine layout plus more.

That is just a start, to be honest. The great thing about WordPress is that there is a HUGE developer community that is continually pushing the envelope of what “themes” can be capable of. Theme frameworks, which are basically extra functions that you can use when developing a theme, are the lastest buzz word to hit WordPress. Frameworks are nothing new, however, when it comes to web design and development. Blueprint, which I use in all my themes, is a CSS framework. WordPress is a PHP framework just as JQUERY is a javascript framework.

But how does a theme framework benefit the end-user (you)? Theme frameworks will make your blog more configurable from the theme options, more forward compatible with future releases of WordPress, and easier for you to switch site styles.

    Hey Thad,

    Great work on the Hi-Def theme! If I had one request, it would be better documentation of theme features and modifications.

    If I had two requests, the other would be some of the features in Tarski. Like, GUI swappable headers and “aside” categories.

    But I gotta say you are doing a great jjob so far.

    What I’m looking for, is something geared towards a photographer.
    Can you recommend one of your themes or do you have plans for something like this in a soon to be released theme?

    The thing about this theme is that it is packed with what I’m calling “Apps.” Apps are things like a slideshow, a slider gallery, a magazine-style front page, etc. You can enable or disable the Apps on the Theme Options page in WordPress. The theme can be a blog, a portfolio, you name it.

    I would like to see a feature in WordPress or if not possible in WP-Themes to display mobile phone/smartphone users of my WordPress-powered Website a mobile optimized version of the WP-theme i’m using.

    I’m using an iPhone 3G after using an old Nokia cell phone for years and I saved so much time and trouble with all the services and apps the iPhone makes available for me. But of course screen size of smartphone like iPhone is limited and an optimized display for surfing WordPress-powered website would be so fantastic ;-)
