  1. You obviously put a lot of work into that post and its very interesting to see the thought process that you went through to come up with those conclusion. Thanks for sharing your deep thoughts. I must admit that I think you nailed it on this one.
I’m new to the blogging business. I’d love to learn more about this topic. I’ve bookmarked your blog. Looking forwards for your new posts.

  2. There has been a lot of talk recently about how good SEO can improve your sites ranking, but I think that having a well coded layout is just as important. Your site should still make sense to people that have CSS and/or images disabled, and to achieve this the structure of your HTMl should be such that a plain html page can still be read and understood. This also makes it accessible to screen readers for partially sighted or blind people.

  3. Hi, I see that Workaholic was updated to 1.1. Is there a changelog so I can see if should update?

    Thanks
    Nick

  4. wow nice theme maybe soon ill use that..can you update me if you had another theme like this?thanks again

  5. Hi! at first congratulations for this awesome theme! i love it!
but when i try to use 2 things not work for me … =(
1st one that mouse over in thumbnails in homepage not working when i mouseover… the thumbs appears static when mouseover… i have to install any plugin to do this work?
2nd in portfolio post page… i test one post with 3 images… and the images appears one by one like a list of images and not correct like demo that i see (i mean like a slideshow, with numbers).
take a look in tests that i made here http://folio.renatodigiorgio.com/
i have to install any plugin?!?
    please helpe me =(
    hugs!
    renato di giorgio

    • renato — I’m experiencing exactly the same problems as you. I looked up your domain on a hunch — we’re both using GoDaddy. I wonder if it’s a GoDaddy problem.

      • Those problems don’t have anything with godaddy or some other plugins. I’m using godaddy. got no problem on my site.

I suggest you to watch this video:

        http://graphpaperpress.com/videos-free/setting-up-workaholic.mp4

then uninstall everything and make a clean install. follow instructions in the video

        • Hi Nitrogliserin,
I see the video and i follow exact step by step
what he recommends and dont works…
I got same problem of Mela =(
          Any suggestions?
          Hugs!
          Renaton

        • i think that i understand what’s happening!

the new updated version 1.1 of work-a-holic is incomplete!
i take a look in “functions” of the theme … and see many archives that not are in the zip… for example in this lines of “functions” of this 1.1 theme we have:

          wp_enqueue_script(’superfish’, THEME .’/js/nav/superfish.js’, array(‘jquery’));
          wp_enqueue_script(‘nav’, THEME .’/js/nav/jquery.bgiframe.min.js’, array(‘jquery’));
          wp_enqueue_script(‘nav’, THEME .’/js/nav/hoverintent.js’, array(‘jquery’));
          wp_enqueue_script(’search’, THEME .’/js/search.js’,”);

note that in this new version 1.1 (workaholic_1.1.zip) that i donwloaded don’t have sub directory “nav” in “js” directory.
the “js” directory just have 2 files: jquery.gallery.js and search.js and no subdirectories…

i think the owner of graph paper press commits a mistake compacting the
1.1 version of this theme and forgot to put all files in ZIP =(

please graph paper press staff fix this zip file of 1.1 version of word-a-holic theme… its incomplete =( !!

        • Hi Nitrogliserin, thanks for clarifying that it’s not a GoDaddy problem. I brought up plugins because the instruction page lists that JQuery not working could be due to installed plugins.

I actually just installed Wordpress a few hours ago and yes, prior to your comments had done the instructions as recommended by the video. Still the same problems though.

  6. Hi! I have the same question as renaton’s — the mouseover doesn’t work for me either. :( I’ve disabled all other plugins, not sure what’s going on… http://chelseaheather.com/

    • Hi Mela,

we have the both same (2) problems =(

if you got a solution, please let me know

e-mail me at renaton (at) gmail (dot) com

i will e-mail you too if i got the solution =)

      thanks

      hugs from brazil,
      renaton

    • Mela,

Try to find a 1.0 version
cause i make many tests in version 1.1
and my conclusion is that this version
avaiable at this time here at graph
paper press are corrupt (there are
some files that aren’t in the zip file)
i try 1.0 version and all good now =)
if you can’t find it i can sent you…
      hugs
      /renaton

  7. I’m also encountering the same 2nd problem — I don’t get a slider for multiple images :(

  8. Hi!
I’m using Work-a-holic for my website http://diebeiden.eu and I think it is really amazing. But I’ve got two questions.
First: Is it possible to show and see the pictures I’ve posted in the portfolio section also in the RSS-feed?
Second: How can I enable comments in the portfolio section?

I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks.
    Bye.

    • I manged to enable comments in the portfolio-section.
To enable it just open the ’single.php’-file in you workaholic folder, go to line 22 an delete this: ‘($blog_ID)’. (of course without the ”. And that is it.
I think it is not the correct PHP-way, but I am quite new in this area and this works well for me.

  9. Nice site! Some files were temporarily missing in the download. This has been fixed.

  10. Hi,

I’m getting the same javascript problems as Mela and Renaton mentioned. I downloaded the theme from the membership page on the 30th of August and I have the missing files mentioned by Renaton.

So I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I do notice a superfish error in my javascript error console tho.

I noticed Mela’s site is working now. How did you fix it?

It’s a great looking theme. I can’t wait to get it working.

    Cheers
    Avril

  11. Hi, first, like the others, congratulation for this template. Very beautifull and usefull.

Unfortunatly, I have a problem that I noticed too on some websites using the theme. Here is the problem : for example, I set up wordpress in order to display 3 posts per page. Supposing I post 3 portfolio posts and 2 other posts in the category blog (with the right ID excluded in the theme options), I should see only the 3 portfolio posts with the “NEXT” thumbnail off at the right bottom. Actually, this “NEXT” thumbnail is enabled, linking toward an empty page. To understand the problem, check the website of Sascha (see his message above). I have exactly the same problem.

Before to submit my message, be sure I checked the problem on a local version of wordpress (2.8.3) and on a personnal server.

Is anyone having an idea how to fix this?

    Thanks.

    Stephan

  12. Hi, it’s me again! ;-)

It seems the problem is fixed. I erase the command wp_reset_query in the index.php file. The result is that the NEXT link only toward the portfolio and not toward one or few blank pages, depending the number of posts in the Blog catagory.

I think it’s OK right now, but tell me if I’m wrong or not.

    Stephan

  13. I just downloaded this today and I’m also having a problem. Stephan, did you figure it out? Avril? Mela?

    thanks
    Eli

    • Hi Eli,

what kind of problem? The one I described (or try to describe) above?

      Stephan

      • yeah, the mouseover doesn’t work for me. does it work for you?

        • Yep!!!

And it was not the same problem for me. Read above my message posted in August 31, 2009 at 11:53 am. And the solution I posted in September 1, 2009 at 8:07 am.

I would like to have the validation of the Graph Paper Press team.

          Good luck!

  14. Hi, I think that in version 1.2 there’s an error in the menu styling because it’s quite ugly and completely different from your demo site(which is using v1.0 I suppose..)!
Hope you can fix it really soon!
    Thank you

  15. I’ve just created a child theme for Workaholic called WorkBase.
I’ve Ironed out some glitches in the process as well. Its got sleeker graphics, a widgetized Intro heading on the homepage (you had to edit the core php file before) flash-like image galleries via the SmoothGallery plugin and a spam free contact form.

    The demo is here:
    http://www.antoneycalvert.com/wordpress/

I’ve just completed this so let me know of any glaring issues I’ve missed. This is my first child theme so I’m not sure how to go about making it available to the users here (if it’s good enough that is)? Maybe Thad can give me some info?

    Toney

  16. I was wondering how I could change the header that says, “Hi! We design beautiful websites. Not just beautiful but usable websites. Be sure to check out what I have done and contact us if you want to improve yours as well.”

    Thanks!

  17. thank so much for this wunderful theme

  18. First of all, this theme is absolutely amazing! I’ve been able to customize it to my liking, but have run into a snag. I realize that by adding an image to a post gallery, the theme automatically creates a thumbnail, which is great, but also inserts the full size image into the post.

Is there a way to disable the automatic insert into the post on specific categories?

  19. First off, this is an absolutely stunning theme! I love the simplicity and cleanliness, perfect for displaying our record catalog.

I understand how the theme works, and think it’s great that it creates thumbnails for the gallery automatically – whew! However, I would also like to create a category to display my video portfolio. With that being said:

If I insert an image of the audio player into the gallery for each post, a thumbnail of the video is created which is good. However, in the actual post, I then have an image of the video and the identical looking video player below it.

Is there a way way to manipulate the theme so that for a particular category, the thumbnail is still created when uploading an image to the post gallery, but the image doesn’t actually show up in the post?

Any help would be greatly apprecated. As soon as I figure this out, I will post a link to our modded them for everyone to look at.

    • Don’t insert the image into the post, simply upload the image then save the changes only. The image will show up in the thumbnail clipping area at the bottom of the post admin page.

      Hope this helps.

      • Thanks for the reply, Toney, but that doesn’t fix my problem. When I just save the image into the gallery, the full size image still shows up in my post as well as creates a thumbnail.

For posts in the video category, I would like the theme to create the thumbnail for the gallery only without placing a full size copy of the image in the post automatically. This happens when I only “save changes” – I am not actually inserting the image into the post. This reason this is undesirable is that the post has an image of the movie, and the movie that look identical.

        See for yourself at http://siteholder.net/?p=379

        • Do you have the WP Post Thumbnail plugin installed? You will need this for the thumbs to work properly.

I have a video working on my demo site without the thumb showing on the page. Its the first featured rollover on the home page: “Motion Graphics”

          http://www.antoneycalvert.com/wordpress/

          Hope this helps you.

          Toney

        • Toney, thanks for the info.

That’s exactly what I’m looking to do, but unfortunately, i can’t get WP Post Thumbnail to work with this theme in WP 2.8.4.

I’m able to install the plugin and activiate it, but there are no settings, and options to not show up when I try and upload an image through the post editor.

          Ffanatic

        • The only thing I can think of is that your server isn’t running PHP 5. I ran into this issue when trying to install WP Post Thumbnail on a Yahoo Hosting server.

PHP 5 seems to be needed for the plugin to work properly. Try asking your web hosts if they have PHP 5 installed on their servers.

Hope you manage to get this sorted. Great site by the way!

          T

        • Thanks, Toney.

I checked my cPanel, and I’ve actually got PHP 5.2.9 installed on my server. It looks like this will remain open ended until WP Post Thumbnail gets another update, and perhaps even then it won’t ever work.

Either way, things could be worse ;)

          Thanks for your help.

  20. When I use this theme The thumbnails on the portfolio page are stretched and distorted. The images look fine in the post, but the thumbnails are all out of whack. Can anyone tell me where I can adjust the thumbnails specs or just how to fix this? Besides this, this theme would be ideal for my needs. Thanx

  21. Can anyone tell me how to COMPLETELY get rid of the twitter updater. I delete every thing in the CSS style sheet but there is a lingering dot left over that I can’t get off. Thank you.

  22. Two questions:
    1. How do you change the top navigation structure?
    2. How do you insert a logo?

  23. Hello!

i just have to say that i absolutely LOVE this theme! thanks guys! :D

i just have one tinyyyy question.. Under the Blog part of the theme, after i click ‘next’ a couple of times, the entries start to display as a Portfolio page (with the thumbnails, without comments etc etc) instead of a Blog page.

Is there any way I could fix this? i’ve tried what i can and i can’t seem to figure it out cos it seems to be some sort of bug =/

  24. Anyone figure out how and where to style the navigation ?

  25. I am having similar issues to those mentioned before.
The thumbnails on the home page are stretched.
I have installed the WP Post Thumbnail plugin, doesnt seem to help.

ALso when inserting images into a post, once published, there is the gallery above with 1, 2, 3, 4 etc and then the images below.

I have tried to reload from scratch, same issues.

This is such a great theme, would be a pity to have to ditch it.
Am I doinng something wrong here?

Does it work with Wp 2.8.4?

    • Just figured out that I shouldnt insrt the image into the post, now no stretched image and no images below gallery.
      Thanks!

  26. Hello!

I love the theme, but I have one little glitch that I can’t figure out. At the top of my page, in the nav by the search bar, there’s a “no categories” non-functioning link that I am not sure how to get rid of. Thanks!

    Crystal

    web.streetstudios.net

    • Hi, you have to solutions to fix it.

1 – if you plan to have a blog, do not forget to specify the ID category of the blog. It’s very well explained in the video published by the Graph Paper Press.

2 – in the file header.php, delete or comment(best solution) the line of the blog ID. And “no categories” will disappeared.

Don’t forget: you have to choose one of these solutions, not both.

      Good luck!

  27. Hello,

Very Nice theme. I like it and have been working with it for several days now. However, I cannot seem to do two things:

I would like to post just two rows of images (thumbnails) on the main page. This page then, should have two working arrows (previous and next arrows) near the bottom of the page. Currently, the page is generating more than 3 rows. After the 3rd row, the arrows are “active” but the image that should “go” to a secondary page instead remains on the 4th row on the main page. I guess I expected that it would be moved to the secondary page once 3 rows were filled up. Clicking the arrow only brings you to a page with no posting.

How can I force the template to show only two rows on the main page and display extra’s on a secondary page? I assume that fixing the first problem with take care of the issue with the arrows pointing to new page without a post.

    Thanks in advance.

    Wendy

    • Doh…problem solved. So sorry. I finally stumbled upon the link for the older posts and found my answer, which was right under my nose all along (isn’t it always?). Setting the maximum number of blog posts to 6 (Settings >> Reading). Geeze! Too simple! I now have two rows of thumbs on my main page. Yay!

      Thank you Chandra and GPP!

      Wendy

  28. For the life of me, I cant figure out how to allow this theme to show bold fonts when using the tag. Without the asterisk of course. I have checked everywhere, how can I go about letting the theme use bold font?

    Other than that, wonderful theme!

  29. That should say strong tag, haha.

  30. sorry for the spam…..found it.

  31. Another question, again so sorry for the spammage. How would I go about adding comment functionality to a page in this theme?

  32. Hi there,
First off amazing theme, thank you!

I was wondering, once you are down to an individual portfolio post, eg. http://graphpaperpress.com/demo/workaholic/?p=68

How could I go about paginating the posts so that I could have a ‘next/prev’ buttons with each individual post? Which template do I have to edit?

    Cheers, Thanks.

  33. hi,

FANTASTIC theme, and thanks for making it free.

    i have a question.

for the “Portfolio” section, how can i make the top menu item stay highlighted when a sub/child category is selected. For example, if I rollover “Portfolio” and click on the category, “Art,” I want the parent menu item, “Portfolio,” to be highlighted.

i’d also like the top menu item “Portfolio” to stay highlighted when viewing a post in any “Portfolio” subcategory,

i figured out how to do it for the “Home,” “About,” and “Contact” menu items, but not for “Portfolio.”

racking my brain…any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    thanks!

    • Hi! Can you share how you managed to change the menu link colors when it’s the current page? I’m having trouble with all the menu pages. Thanks!

  44. Hi,

Thanks for the great theme. Only problem i have is you don’t seem to be able to post a comment. When you try to, it takes you to the post but the comments fields do not show.

  48. This is a great theme and was just what I was looking for.

However, I’m having trouble with my blog category posts. Any images I’ve uploadedwhilst adding a new post are shown in a gallery like the one in my portfolio posts, which is not what I want.

Is there anyway to prevent this?

  49. Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with my problem.

I have just started to create my website using the Workaholic Theme.

Today when I did 3 posts as you will see on my website’s home page, none of the thumbnails came up for these recent posts (I just had my server and host upgraded and had no problem with the first 3 posts I had tested a few months ago)..

    Can someone help me?

I would be so greatful. I simply want to know how to get the ‘Thumbnails to appear on the homepage when I create a new post).

It used to be something that automaticaly happened so I am confused why it won’t work now. ( I am posting my single images via a URL link).

    Cheers,
    Nina

  50. Is it possible to hyperlink the images within the gallery so they can be viewed larger using lightbox or similar plugin?

  51. Hi,

is there a problem with my previous comment? I really hope to have answers resolving the bug.

    Thanks.

    Stephan

  52. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. For the record, this was fixed last week.

  53. Hi Thad, when you say this was fixed, is it about the empty page(s) problem that I mentionned (still a problem for me today, even with your 1.2 version) or the javascript problems? Thanks. ;-)
