The GPP Category Slider plugin adds a new widget for creating a category slider in the homepage. This plugin works great with Base and child themes and is particularly well-suited for use in Focal Point. Once activated, the category slider option appears under Appearance -> Widgets area where you can set the categories you want to show up in the slider. This plugin uses featured images from the posts.
