Modfolio

Modfolio is a minimal portfolio-style theme for WordPress released as a child theme for Modularity. You can enable or disable over ten homepage layout combinations, change theme colors, add advertising code, and contact info all from the theme options page. Because the demo site only shows just one of many possible homepage layouts, I’ve included a few additional screenshots of alternative homepage layouts below.

Important

You must have Modularity installed in your theme folder in order for this child theme to function. If it is installed, simply upload and activate Modfolio just as you would any normal theme. Modfolio overrides specific Modularity template files, giving the multimedia theme framework a facelift and alternative design features.

    Will this child theme work with Modularity Lite as well?

    1. Thad Avatar

      No. You need Modularity.

    Broken Themes

    The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
    Name Description
    Stylesheet is missing.
    Modfolio Template is missing.

    🙁

    1. Thad Avatar

      You need to install Modularity. This is a child theme for Modularity.

    I am not able to extract the files. I had the same issue with modularity until I downloaded instead from WordPress, I believe.

    Will the category images display as expected if used as 5 across? This was also not working for me using modularity. If I use the child theme, I am hoping this will be resolved.

    Great theme otherwise. I love the use of the colors here, btw. 😉

    X_cem…….you must have modularity installed in your theme folder for modfolio to work. Modfolio is a child theme for Modularity, not Modularity Lite.

      is there any way to contact the makers of these products? i cannot find an email address, etc. and when told to post in the forums, cannot find my posting. how can i get more information?

      please advise

        Yes. Try using the contact form, located here:

    @pixelpixel…..looks like you beat me to the reply. Glad you like the colors (or lack there of). I would rather err on the side of a minimalist color palette, as opposed heavy conflicting colors. Color treatment on the web can be very distracting to content. Anyway….

    The category display for Modfolio displays vertically. If you prefer the old horizontal categories found in Modularity, open up home.php in Modfolio and change this:

    <?php
    $category_section = get_option('T_category_section');
    if($category_section == "On") { include (HIGH_DEF_PATH . '/apps/category-stack.php'); }
    ?>

    to this:

    <?php
    $category_section = get_option('T_category_section');
    if($category_section == "On") { include (THEMELIB . '/apps/five.php'); }
    ?>

    Are you uploading your images using WordPress’ built in Photo upload tool?

  6. pixiepixel Avatar

    Hello Thad,

    Thank you for your reply. It is the subtleness of the colors (blue-green lines) and the serene blue and green background that I like. Also, the feedback on mouseover is great too! If you keep creating my favs, how am I going to come up with anything that looks original?? 🙂

    I am using WP 2.7. and Modularity 1.4. I will (hopefully) be using the Modfolio child theme soon if I can get a copy to unzip for me. I still have not had success with this. Can I get Modfolio from the WordPress site?

    At any rate, my issue is not that I cannot display the categories across, it is that I cannot seem to get the images in the (5 across) category section to appear correctly (in Modularity). Some posts appear without their associated images and those that do display images, are displaying images that do not belong to that post. Does this make sense? I have 5 sample posts and have an image in each of them. Each of these images is associated to a single category. I believe I am referencing them (the category id’s) correctly on the options page and thus, each category should display the image on the home page, right? I have no clue why this is happening. I was hoping that if I can download and install Modfolio, it would fix itself, but I fear this is really not the solution. I am still experimenting and am stubborn. I really like the theme but I want it to behave.

    I should mention that when I created new categories, category id #2 was not assigned, even after deleting the database and starting over. Is this perhaps a WP 2.7 bug?

    I am using the WordPress photo upload tool along with Smush-it and Cleaner-Gallery plugins. I am quite a newbie with php but know enough CSS to be dangerous.

    Sorry for the long post. Any insight you can share is appreciated.

    Regards

    @Everyone – Try the latest download. I’ve repacked and rezipped the theme.

  8. Thad Avatar

    @pixel pixel – try deactivating the cleaner gallery and downloading the new version of Modfolio.

  9. pixiepixel Avatar

    Thank you Thad! I will try to deactivate cleaner gallery. Also, I was able to download the repack—I am off to play…
    🙂

    Happy New Year!

    Thad

    I looked at the forum and I did not see any open topics for this child theme yet so I’m posting my error here.

    Here is what I’m getting:

    Warning: main(latest-work.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/iwebso2/public_html/newblog/wp-content/themes/modfolio/home.php on line 17

    Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening ‘latest-work.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/iwebso2/public_html/newblog/wp-content/themes/modfolio/home.php on line 17

    I looked at the folders and I can’t find the “latest-work.php” file, and that is from the latest download. I was having some other problems with the earlier version.

    I’m please with the design.

    Happy New Year!

    @jricardo – Try to newest download

    Thanks Thad it worked.

    I found another issue using the shadowbox. After viewing the images and once you close the shadowbox the images shows up at the bottom left of the page by the footer.

    I’ve checked Safari and Firefox on a Mac and IE 7.05 on a PC.
    I’ve check your demo site and it seems that it has the same behavior.

    Best

    Hey Thad, love the new child-theme… one issue though… it seems my featured section is still creating the thumbnails at 150px square… where do I change this setting, and what should the new thumbnail dimensions be?

    1. Thad Avatar

      WordPress creates your thumbnails when you upload them. The theme simply displays the thumbnails that exist on your site; it cannot recreate them or change their dimensions. Therefore, if you switched themes and had 150 square thumbnails, you will need to reupload them AFTER you change your thumbnail dimensions on the Media Settings page in WordPress

  14. Chandra Avatar

    @iheathen – Login to admin and change the thumbnail size from Settings -> Media.

    🙂

  15. iheathen Avatar

    Chandra, thanks for the reply, however I did that, and changed them to 310×150 and it didn’t make a difference.

    Hi Thad,

    Two important things I would like to ask;

    1. Is it possible to get direct access to the Graph Papare Press forum as soon as somebody buys a theme club? Now you have to apply and wait for approval. With some time differences, you do not get acces quickly
    2. I installed Modfolio as well as Modularity, but none of my options ‘slideshow’ and ‘slider thumbnails’ is working. I have wordpress 2.6

    Thanks a lot for your support!

    1. Thad Avatar

      Everyone gets free access to GraphPaperPress.com/forum. I’m working on the premium support forum, which subscribers will be granted access to.

    2. Thad Avatar

      Can you send a link?

    Hi,

    I have wordpress 2.7 — Modularity, and I’ve just downloaded Modfolio to install as a childtheme and the SlideShow does not work.

    What happens is the first image come up – but stays static, no matter what I try to do.

    Is this happening to anyone else?

    Thank you so much,

    1. Thad Avatar

      If the slideshow doesn’t fade, it’s 99.9% due to a javascript conflict issue. What plugins do you have enabled? Are you sure you have more than one photo in the slideshow category?

    2. aedmonds Avatar

      I had the same problem, figured out it was the Lightbox 2 plugin I had installed. Deactivated that plugin and everything worked fine.

      Now using jquery lightbox plugin and slideshow still works.

    Cool theme. It almost looks like a movie theatre screen. The darker colored themes seem to be very trendy. Although I heard it can kill your visitor stickiness. But they sure do look cool!
