Theme Sneak Peek: Instamate

Theme customization is about to take a GIANT leap forward.

This week’s sneak peek is for our soon-to-be launched Instamate WordPress theme. Instamate includes features never seen before in any of our themes including live theme customization previews, optional integration with Instagram and Twitter and has big, minimalist slideshows that we know you all love. Instamate allows for a portfolio or blog-style homepage, so take a pick!

Checkout this video sneak peek to see Instamate in action:

Live Theme Customizer

The live theme customizer is seriously addictive and we think you’re gonna absolutely love it. Change background colors, upload a custom header image, or choose between over 350 Google fonts and see the changes happen instantaneously, live on the page before clicking save. So sweet!

Horizontal, Vertical or Square Thumbnails

Quickly change between horizontal , vertical or square thumbnails on the Live Theme Customizer page or on the Theme Options page. If you are a portrait photographer, this theme is for you. If you are a landscape photographer, well, ditto. Prefer square thumbnails? We got you covered.

Optional Instagram Integration

I’m seriously addicted to Instagram. When I started building this theme, I knew that integration with Instagram was a must. Here’s how it works. When you use the theme in conjunction with the Instagrate plugin, you’ll be able to upload an image to Instagram from your phone, and the image will be cross-posted to your WordPress site by creating a new post with the Image Post format. The theme’s proportions fit Instagram photos perfectly. It’s magic.

Look for the ability to download the Instamate theme if you’re a paid Graph Paper Press member next week.

Is there anything special you’d like to see Instamate support? Tell us your thoughts on this theme in the comments below.

    looks nice.
will it also work well with photos in landscape-orientation?
and: what happened to the e-commerce-plugin? is it dead or coming (soon)?

    1. Graph Paper Press Avatar

Yep, landscape oriented photos are totally supported. The media-ecommerce plugin is very much alive. It’s just taken much longer to develop than originally planned. It’s about 90% completed and shaping up to be very streamlined, fast, easy to use. We’d like to have a beta ready for testing within two weeks.

Possible option for header image slideshow? Would galleries/collection sizes still be adjustable/customizable?

    1. porter Avatar

      Also, will Instamate be responsive?

    2. Graph Paper Press Avatar

Hmm…I might just add the slideshow header option tomorrow. Gallery thumbnails on the archive page will be customizable.

I’m a member of GGP but when it came to a portfolio site I was building (http://www.cutoutstudios.com/) I went with a non-GPP theme called Imbalance. Rather than choose between square, landscape or portrait thumbnails, this themes allows you to set the width and it adjusts the height according to the featured image. Could this option be worked into themes of the future?

    1. Graph Paper Press Avatar

It would with some small modifications. It’s been our experience that consistently sized images works best for most users, which is why we go this route. That said, we’d be happy to give you code snippets if you want your pages to work with any orientation.

Thanks for the reply. I’m excited to play around with the theme and i’ll be in touch via the support forum if I decided to try and create ‘reactive’ thumbnails.

I purchased a domain today to use with this theme 🙂

    1. Graph Paper Press Avatar

For sure. All you need is a web host, a domain name, and have WordPress installed on your server.

      1. Chris Pugh Avatar

This looks very nice Thad! I was about to redesign my site after the Photo shelter issue resolved but I think I will wait for this one! Any chance it will sync with Photo Shelter?

    1. Graph Paper Press Avatar

Photoshelter controls which themes integrate with their service, so you might want to reach out to them and request it.

  11. Erik Avatar

the new theme looks good but it is not my favorite. Therefore I would like to inquire, if any existing themes might get the ‘live-theme customize’-functionality in the future?

    1. Graph Paper Press Avatar

No worries Erik. All of our new themes will have live theme customization options. As far as existing themes go, we are actually going to rebuild all of our old themes over the summer. Most, if not all, will soon support live theme customization.

My pleasure Russ. Looking forward to seeing what you create 🙂

  13. Stuart Townsend Avatar

Psyched to try it out later! Did you end up enabling a header slideshow?

  14. Mark Avatar

How do I remove the thumbnails under the image slider on under the portfolio page? I’ve been having trouble removing that and somehow imitating what you guys have on your demo. A little help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
