Shutterbox is a photography and a portfolio theme designed to showcase your portfolio, blog and e-commerce store.
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard. This can be found at yourdomain.com/wp-admin
- Go to Appearance -> Themes and click on the Install Themes tab.
- Click on the Upload link.
- Upload the zip file that you downloaded and click Install Now.
- Click Activate.
The JetPack plugin is required in order to fully utilize the features of this theme. Key JetPack-supported features include: JetPack Custom Post Type Portfolio, Tiled Galleries, Site Logo, and Infinite Scroll.
The Sell Media plugin is recommended if you want to show your products on the homepage, like in the demo. Sell Media allows you to sell photos, prints and downloads directly from your WordPress website.
The Elementor plugin is a new page builder plugin. It's our favorite page builder plugin by a long shot. Give it a look.
Optional: You can download a demo content file here that you can import in Tools -> Import. In many cases just importing the demo content will not work since you will also have to make some manual configurations. Please go through this documentation to fully understand how the theme works in order to customize it to fit your needs.
Setting Up Homepage Like The Demo
Please refer to Jetpack's offical documentation for installation instructions. Once Jetpack is installed and active:
Visit JetPack -> Settings and activate Custom Post Types so Portfolios can be created.
Visit Portfolio -> Add New and add your Portfolio Projects. Always set a Featured Images.
Install Sell Media (optional)
Please refer to Sell Media's offical documentation for installation instructions.
- Visit Sell Media -> Add New and add items to your e-commerce store.
Set the homepage
Visit Pages -> Add new and create a new page called _Home_ and set the Page Template to _Homepage Template._
Visit Appearance -> Customize -> Front Page and set the Front Page to the Home page that you created above.
In the Customizer, visit the Widgets tab drag JetPack Portfolios (Shutterbox), Sell Media (Shutterbox) and Recent Posts (Shutterbox) widgets into the Shutterbox Homepage widget location. Optionally, add Text widgets and JetPack's Contact Info widget between the widgets added above to create visual separation.
In the Customizer, visit Theme Options to optionally set a Welcome Message, Custom Fonts, and much more.
In the Customizer, visit Headers and optionally add a header image.
There are also Footer Widgets and Social menu in footer if you want to set them.
Setting up the rest of the site
Create several Portfolio Posts by going to Portfolio -> Add New.
Create a Portfolio page using the Default Portfolio Template. You only have to enter the Title and choose the page template.
Create a page and call it "Blog" or any other relevant term. This will be used to show your normal posts.
Go to Settings -> Reading. Under the Front Page Displays option, select a static page option. Then, select your _Home_ page as _Front page_ and your _Blog_ page as _Posts page_.
Now, you should have a homepage that looks like the demo, and a Blog page with normal posts. You can also add the Blog page in the menu for easy access.
If you don't want to use JetPack to show portfolios, you can simply create a page and insert a gallery of images.
If you have JetPack enabled, you'll have 7 different gallery layouts to select from including:
- Thumbnail Grid
- Tiled Mosaic
- Square Tiles
- Tiled Columns
- Masonry Gallery
- Lightbox Slidehow
There gallery layout options appear in the right-side of the Gallery Editor after you're selected your images.
This theme supports two menu locations:
- Primary Menu (in header)
- Social Menu (in footer)
To learn how to use Menus, please see this video.
Here is how we recommend you setup your menus:
Use the Main Menu for links to your Homepage, Portfolio, Blog, About, and Contact pages. Obviously, the pages that you have on your webite will vary, but limiting the number of links in the Main Menu to only the most important pages and sections on your website.
Use the Social menu for social media links. Give each link a name and paste the urls to your social media websites.
If you're using our Sell Media plugin, you might consider using the Top menu location for your Checkout and Lightbox pages.
If you are using the Portfolio Content Type from JetPack as we recommend, you will want to make sure to set a Featured Image for all entries.
